OFAM 2022 Winter Overview 1
The Shedd Institute is pleased to announce the expansion of its long-standing annual summer tribute to the Great American Songbook, Oregon Festival of American Music with the addition of an annual one-week winter “mini” version of the Festival. This year’s Oregon Festival of American Music Winter 2022 (or OFAM 2022 Winter for short) will take place March 2-6, under the leadership of Festival music director Chuck Redd.
Now in its 31st year, the thematically-based Oregon Festival of American Music each year through an array of concerts, talks and films explores and celebrates historic popular music in America with an especial emphasis on the Great American Songbook and the musical genres with which it is closely related, most notably jazz. OFAM Winter will follow this same format.
Coming to The Shedd March 2-6, OFAM Winter 2022 dives into the 1920s with AVALON – The Birth of American Popular Music, 1917-29. Through 4 unique concerts, a jazz party, renowned vibraphonist/drummer and Festival music director Chuck Redd and company explore the decade in which the musical genres and performance forms that would dominate American popular culture for the next half-century came into their own, enabled and shaped by an extraordinarily rapid and rich transformation and expansion of the means by which music and performance was distributed.
Tickets go on sale mid-January, 2022.
