JOE FREUEN attended Manhattan School of Music and Teachers College at Columbia University, receiving a Masters of Jazz Studies and Masters of Education. While in New York, Freuen studied with Michael Abene, Dave Liebman, and Garry Dial. Currently he freelances as a musician and composer and is a member of the jazz group Seven Minus who recently recorded a second album in Virginia. Since returning to Oregon, Freuen has performed with the horn sections of the Cherry Poppin’ Daddies, Eleven Eyes, Thomas Mapfumo and The Blacks Unlimited, Alcyon Massive, Toussaint the Liberator, The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, and more. He leads his own jazz sextet.
