Alice Blankenship and her microphilharmonic Baroque ensemble on period instruments cover the transition from Baroque to Classical through representative works by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750), his son Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach (1714-88), and Franz Joseph Haydn (1732-1809). The program includes J. S. Bach's 1707 Easter cantata Christ lag in Todes Banden [Christ lay in death's bonds] BWV 4; Heiliger Schöpfer, Gott! [Holy creator, God!], a chorale from C.P.E. Bach's 1769 Die Letzten Leiden des Erlösers [The last sufferings of the Savior], H.776; and three movements from Haydn's 1786 Die sieben letzten Worte unseres Erlösers am Kreuze [The seven last Words of our Savior on the Cross] for String Quartet, Hob.III:50-56, Op. 51.
