Michael Anderson is Artistic Director of the chamber ensemble microphilharmonic at The Shedd Institute. He currently serves as Principal Clarinet of the Eugene Symphony and Santa Fe Pro Musica and was Principal Clarinet of the Oregon Bach Festival and Oregon Ballet Theater for many years. Michael has performed with Chamber Music Northwest, the Oregon Symphony, and the Smithsonian Chamber Players. He premiered Tomas Svoboda’s Clarinet Concerto in 2013, which was broadcast on Performance Today, and performed on the Oregon Bach Festival’s Grammy Award-winning recording of Penderecki’s Credo. Anderson has served in leadership roles for the Oregon Bach Festival, Portland Baroque Orchestra, and Eugene Opera, retiring in 2021 as Director of Artistic Administration for the Oregon Bach Festival. In 2017, he received the Eugene Arts and Letters Award, and in 2021, he was honored with the Saltzman Award. He studied with David Shifrin and currently teaches at Woodwinds at Wallowa Lake. A Backun Artist, Michael plays on Lumiere clarinets.
