Background, professional training and performance history
Emma feels grateful for the ways music has enriched her life. Since her first choir performance, she’s held a lasting passion and love for music. She has been taking voice lessons for 10 years, with experience and training in several vocal styles, including classical, musical theatre, choral singing, jazz, and pop genres.
Emma was born in Barbados, but grew up in Central Oregon. She started out as a third grader in the Youth Choir of Central Oregon, where she auditioned, sang, performed, and toured with them for 9 years. She performed and competed with vocal jazz and choral groups throughout high school. Additionally, Emma performed in many voice competitions, and won first place titles in classical and musical theatre genres. She has gotten the opportunity to perform in Carnegie Hall twice, one of them with the Honors Performance Series Concert Choir.
Emma holds a Bachelor Degree in Music Performance from the University of Oregon. She sang professionally with the Central Lutheran Church Chorale as soprano section leader for two years. Throughout college opera ensembles, she understudied for Donna Anna in Mozart’s Don Giovanni and sang in the chorus of Massenet’s Cendrillon. With an extensive range of skills, Emma has relevant knowledge in music history and culture, aural skills and sight reading, conducting, vocal diction, French, Italian, and German languages and vocal pedagogy. Currently, she is singing in the Eugene Vocal Arts choral group, and later plans to audition for roles in the Eugene Opera.
My goal is to help students of all ages and interests express their voice,
and grow musically. To me, music is truly food for the soul, and my hope is for students to
experience how singing can amplify a sense of freedom, confidence, and joy. I understand that
each student’s learning style is individual and unique, and I plan on being flexible, respectful,
and open towards all. I think it’s most important for my students to have fun and be creative in a
supportive environment, while building foundational skills in vocal performance and technique.
Whether it’s a karaoke song, a choir concert, or a classical voice recital, I think everyone should
sing their heart out
