Chamber music for string players is a source for some of the richest literature and intimate creativity and collaboration found in the world of classical music. This camp serves to share and introduce a high level of rehearsal strategies and performance practice to serious strings players grades 6-12. Each student will be matched in a chamber group of 3-5 ensemble members who will work together throughout the week culminating with a final performance of works by composers such as Beethoven, Dvorak, Haydn , and Mendelssohn. An emphasis is placed on learning self-guided practice and rehearsal strategies. All students will receive highly individualized instruction with a high faculty to student ratio.
Daily activities begin at 9:30am and end at 3:30pm including: group warm-up and stretching, music theory (emphasis on tuning and intonation in a string quartet), coached rehearsal, student led rehearsal, master class, and a large ensemble rehearsal. Additionally, each student will receive a private lesson on their chamber pieces during the week. The faculty will also perform a chamber music recital for all the students demonstrating rehearsal techniques and performance practice skills. At the end of the week students perform for friends and families in The Shedd's Recital Hall.
Eligibility: Open to all accomplished violin, viola, and cello students 6th-12th grade. It is strongly suggested that students have had at least three years of private instruction. The student profile form lets students describe what they have been working on, and we will create ensembles of similar age and ability.
Application Dates: Please apply by June 15th to allow the Director to assign students to their appropriate small appropriate small ensemble groups. Later registrants will be assigned on a first come basis.
